Carolina Lansing, the granddaughter of Carolina Herrera, attended Le Bal des Débutantesin Paris over the weekend, wearing a custom-designed dress by Wes Gordon. The strapless ivory and black gathered mermaid gown subtly riffed on a look from his spring 2025 show of which he said at the time, “I was chasing the wow.”
Carolina’s dress had wow factor, for sure, but this resort collection, while not quite as grand, has its own sense of circumstance. There was a distinct goddess sweep to the shoulderline of the caped red gown that opens the lookbook. The painterly florals on a strapless evening dress and a flowing caftan were inspired by frescoes from Pompeil, while a pair of party dresses—one short, the other long—featured embroideries that could’ve been lifted from Greek statuary. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey will arrive in theaters next summer, at which time, fashion will doubtless be inundated with Grecian draping and other ancient motifs; Gordon’s got a head start, though trendiness has never been part of his modus operandi.
Color-blocking was another seasonal theme. Sky blue and turquoise came together on a draped-neck blouse and pencil skirt, and a ribbed knit set paired peach with lime green. Among the cocktail and event dresses, a black number with a plunge-front origami bust was more diva than debutante.
