It’s not often that there’s people seen roaming the polished marble halls of One World Trade Center in chainmail and leather mid-week, but Tuesday night was a special occasion. To celebrate his new Zara collaboration, Paris-based designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin descended on his home away from home, downtown Manhattan, with a crew in tow, including campaign face Alex Consani.
After news of the upcoming collection made waves, de Saint Sernin and Consani toasted to the line with friends during a dinner co-hosted by Inditex chair Marta Ortega Pérez. Upon arrival to the the city’s tallest building and passing through security, guests were whisked up elevators to a makeshift industrial-style ephemeral club on the 70th floor; a sparse concrete-floored space, framed by windows overlooking the glittering skyline. Fusing the raw with the refined—as LdSS’s label is wont to do—the one-night-only venue was also kitted out with plush scarlet carpets and bouquets of deep plum-hued calla lilies.
Consani was among the first to arrive, in a floor-sweeping backless metallic number that’s sure to be a hit with party girls everywhere once it hits stores around the world on November 17. In a meta moment, the supermodel posed against a gigantic digital screen which showcased her in Gordon von Steiner’s film campaign captured nearby on the gritty streets of New York, soundtracked by Opus III’s It’s A Fine Day.
Guests soon trickled in, giving a first look at what’s about to hit the racks: Aweng Ade-Chuol in an ebony calf hair cat coat, Ella Hunt in curly white wool outerwear cinched with a leather corset belt, and Rebecca Dayan in a slinky silver halter.
To fuel the night, attendees including models Imaan Hammam and Stella Maxwell, actor Louisa Jacobson, Dame Pat McGrath, stylists Alastair McKimm, Nicky Campbell, and Dara Allen, as well as designer Narciso Rodriguez (another former collaborator of Zara) broke bread. Or rather, sat to enjoy a menu of dishes rendered in on-theme red and black curated by Charles and Francis: poached black bass, filet mignon with cranberry and black truffle, and cherry-tinted pears with black sesame crumble.
After the last fork was put down, there was only one thing on everyone’s agenda: investigate how the collection holds its own on the dance floor. With thumping music by Anastazja and headliner Honey Dijon, an after party with hundreds of revelers continued until 1.30 a.m. Not bad for a Tuesday.
